Honor Sanctuary is based in Manatee County in Florida. We take
animals that are surrendered, abused or neglected and find them new,
forever homes through regular adoption events. We work closely with
Animal Services, often "adopting" their animals and bringing them to
our own events.

We currently do not have a shelter, so we have foster homes for the
animals until they are adopted into their "forever" home. Our 2008
goals include finding an adoption facility and land/facilities to
build a "Sanctuary" for animals that cannot be re-homed.

Our web site is www.honorsanctuary.org.

With the click of a button, you can help feed and save pets in need daily.  That's all!  A click of a button. Every day, when you get on your computer, if you will visit the two websites listed below and click on their buttons, you will be taking an active role in helping to feed and save animals.

I have put both links in an email and sent it to myself, where I keep the email containing both links.  I always leave it sitting in my inbox.  Before checking my email daily, I open that message and click on both links.  I'd say it takes not so much as a minute of my time to do this.  Then, I carry on with the rest of my day knowing that I have helped an animal in need some where.

You can make a difference!  Will you do the same?

Barb :)

We're a foster home for bunnies from the city's animal control
shelter. We often have more foster buns than we do rabbit-proof rooms,
so we could really use a play yard or ex-pen so we can give everyone a
safe place to play and stretch their muscles.

Many of our fosters arrive too cramped from being stuck in a small
cage all their life to even hop properly. If you can help, please
email mperry@... and thanks!

My very funny cat, Sebastian, is sick. He is a 6yo black persian I and
my ex-fiance adopted. When we split up four months ago, I got the
house and the cat, but with paying double rent, utilities, and food, I
don't know how I'm going to be able to put more money into Sebastian's
healthcare.

I took him to the vet Monday and spent $530 (out of my rent) on his
xray, blood test, and prescriptions. They think it's a giant hairball
in his intestine, which may seem minor, but I can't afford to take him
back to get the barium thing done, just to make sure that it really is
a hairball. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I had to put him
down because I couldn't afford it. I am a responsible pet owner. I
take very good care of him and love him very much.

I'm already working 70 hours a week to get myself back on my feet
after the split, and I'm just making it.

I would be happy to provide any documentation. Everything would go
straight to the vet. We live in Tucson, AZ, and our vet is Dr. Trueba
at the Wiseman Animal Center.

Any help would be much appreciated. I would also like leads on other
possible resources. Please let me know.

I need your help!  As many of you know I am strongly involved with HorseNet Horse Rescue.  I am looking for 400 people who want to help HorseNet continue to care for our rescued horses.  I am asking for just a monthly donation of $10.  This donation will help HorseNet care for our rescued horses.  Our monthly expenses are increasing and we are struggling to keep our bills paid.

Due to an increase in our monthly rent, we are in danger of losing one of the important farms that we lease.  Since real estate prices are so high most horse rescues are not able to buy their own property, so finding a farm to lease is a crucial part of caring for our horses.  Our Mount Airy farm is very important to our rescue.  It allows us to care for horses with special needs, our blind horses and injured horses.  Plus it allows us be a part of their wonderful community.

If 400 people donate $10 a month we will be able to cover our monthly rent expenses.

I will be the first to sign up, please join me and together we will make a difference ....only 399 more friends to go.

Please sign up to help by clicking on the link below.  Click the orange Donate button, you will be directed to the Network for Good giving cart.  Follow the directions to donate and make sure that under Donation Preferences you check for it to be  monthly donation.  Once you sign up please drop me a email letting me know that you are joining me in this campaign, and I can keep you up to date on where we are.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and please don't forget to forward this email along to your friends and family for their help also.

This is one New Years Resolution that is easy to stick to!

Thank you in advance for your help!

As of this morning Cash, a BLM Mustang I currently own was offered a

him as I have fallen on some financial trouble and cannot care for him
anymore. He was being kept for me by a friend 50 miles from my home a
was allowed to nearly starve, as soon as I was told of the condition
of my horse I moved him immediately but am unable to fund his
recovery. Project Hope has given him a home on one condition...that I
am responsible for getting him there. Transportation costs will be
from $200 to $250. If anyone out there would be willing to help with a
donation they would be greatly appreciated be it a donation of 50

BRUTALIZED this poor dog terribly....

and THERE he sits- in a cage at animal control- suffering in immense
pain because there are no funds to get him any medical treatment!!
NOTHING for pain relief!!

still need donations. This poor dog FINALLY went to the vet- after
suffering in excrutiating pain. The vet thinks that somebody
literally tried to ring his neck- the entire neck muscle has been
ripped away from the skin and all connective tissue. Because he
suffered so long without any medical attention- it has now abscessed
and is very infected.

He is being given antibiotics and pain meds. He is so traumatized!

Please pass the word that he still needs donations for ongoing
medical care. So far, no rescue has stepped up to commit to him. He
CLINGS to another Beagle who is also at the Animal Control facility
and Joy feels that the two must be placed together- because being
together seems to be the only thing that keeps Toivo calm and feeling
secure.

It's so sad.

Donations can be sent via pay pal to: the_beebe_fund@...

Thank you for caring, Diana!

I just got a boxer from the local pound. He is apporx. 11months old
and weights 46lbs. He has his tail still. He is Very skinny but is
getting better. We have him on puppy food. We took him to the vet to
have him checked over. The vet told us that the tail would have to
go. He told us the reason boxers get their tails docked at birth is
to prevent injury later as there is not enough fur on their tails to
protect it when it gets hit against something. He showed us a spot at
the end of his tail that was black. He told us that his tail has
damage to it and it would take several amputation to fix it. We were
fine till we heard the word several and found out that one amputation
cost $110! "The dogs tail on the other hand, whether it be in kennels
or around the home, is in constant danger of damage be being hit
against hard objects like walls, fences, tables, chair legs,
radiators and of being trapped in doors. these injuries usually
result in sores at the tip of the tail, which do not heal well
because there is poor blood circulation in this part of the tail.

By licking and chewing, the dog makes the condition worse and the
skin and tissue will die. These conditions of necrosis of the tip of
the tail is often seen in Great Danes and Dalmatians. German
Shepherds are often seen in veterinary surgeries.

This can sometimes be treated with partial amputation but secondary
problems can occur in the healing process because the very poor blood
supply is not conductive to this. This actually makes it necessary to
amputate the tail several times before the healing process is
achieved."
I just don't know what we will do about the rest of the money we can
handle the first $110 but not more than that. There house payments to
make and utilities...I don't like having to ask for help but if there
is someone who could help us out in the kansas city, ks area with
this that would be great. My email is shortyfrlife@....

I desperately need cat food and eye medications for kittens. I have a
feral cat colony I have been carng for for a few years. I have adopted
many out as house cats. I was in a car accident in November and am not
working but about 6 hours a week. I also need help neutering and
spaying. The fee could be paid directly to the vet !! A few of the
kittens are friendly and sweet and ready for a loving home. The adults
I know I will have to just care for in their feral family. I am in
Frederick, Maryland and would love and truly honor any help that can be
given .
There are about 18 of them .

Maybe someone can give more information, but I've had Dalmatians and Shepherds all my life and never docked the tails.     I know several Dobies and Boxers who were rescued with intact tails and never had them done, with no problems.       My opinion would be don't do it without a good medical reason, not just the slight possibility that something could happen.    I suggest getting another opinion, or doing on-line research.      Best of luck with your rescue dog, I'm sure he'll have a long and happy life with you.

I have paid 50.00 on the bill and was planning on paying the bill off

What a sad story, she must be a very sensitive and compassionate person.    It's wonderful that you care for her but realize, too, how much the cats mean to her.     It seems that the only way she'll take care of herself is if she knows the cats will be ok.     Can you contact a local rescue----NOT ANIMAL CONTROL (they may take the cats away, and feral cats don't get homes, they are killed).     See if the rescue will be able to have a volunteer take care of feeding the cats for a few days while you get your lady to a medical clinic.      They may even be able to refer a vet and a clinic to do TNR (trap, neuter, return) for the cats.   You can find local rescues at the Petsmart or Petcos near you, or on petfinder.com.     Again---DO NOT USE ANIMAL CONTROL.   If this kind lady isn't already getting help from social services, ask the nearest hospital who takes charity cases what they can do for her.      There are clinics she can go to.     It sounds like she needs a chest x-ray and antibiotics and a good meal and night's sleep.    Good luck to you all, I hope this sad tale has a good resolution.

I would urge you to seek a second opinion regarding this tail docking.
Did you know that in Great Britain they are trying to have tail docking
of all breeds outlawed. The reason?? There is NO reason to dock tails.
That story about them getting damaged.....just that a story. Look at
all the dogs that have long tails with not much hair (most hounds for
instance) and they do not have docked tails. So I do urge you to get
that second opinion and perhaps save yourwelf a lot of money and your
dog a lot of pain.
Do a google search about tail docking and you will find a lot of good
info....the vast majority of it advising you not to do it.

The all-volunteer Grayson County Humane Society in Leitchfield, KY finds itself in DIRE need of help. With winter setting in and a seasonal average low temperature around 25 degrees, they are DESPERATE to find additional shelter for the over-population of dogs that now fill the 40+ outdoor kennels. The dog houses shown in the photos above are the "luxury accommodations" that only a few of the Grayson dogs are fortunate enough to have. Other dog houses are simply chewed up so badly that the top and bottom no longer fit snugly together, so drafts get through or the top falls off completely. And as we all know, rough edges are injuries just waiting to happen.

Straw bedding can't be used as it plugs up the drains, so on cold nights, the volunteers put blankets out for a little extra added warmth. Just YESTERDAY though, the washing machine actually broke, so that will mean few, if any, blankets will now be available.
Of the dog beds that Grayson does have, many have completely disintegrated from so much use, as can be seen in the photo above.

You know these dogs are struggling to stay warm when their water buckets are frozen each morning when the volunteers arrive to tend to their furry friends. Some of the volunteers even come back at the end of the day when they're done with their "regular" jobs, just to add some warm water to the now-frozen buckets. The twelve indoor runs that are kept around 55 degrees are reserved for senior and/or short-haired dogs, but when they're full of puppies,
even the old and thin-skinned dogs must fend for themselves in the outdoor runs.

Most of the funding for this shelter comes directly out of the pockets of the four main volunteers (and two occasional volunteers) that have worked non-stop for the last four-and-a-half years to try and place adoptable animals that end up at the Leitchfield City Animal Shelter. As they are seldom reimbursed, they are constantly watching their budget and they DO NOT spend money foolishly. Much of the money they have goes towards covering medical bills and the regularly-scheduled long-distance transports that they willingly make to such faraway places as Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and sometimes even Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Little money, if any, is ever available to replace the broken dog houses and/or to buy Kuranda beds. The volunteers simply make due with what they have and they lavish the dogs with as much love and attention as they possibly can to make up for the lack in warm housing. To say it breaks their heart though, is an understatement.
They're just too proud to beg for help, so that's why I'm doing it for them.

This amazingly dedicated group has managed to drastically reduce the euthanasia rate at the shelter. However, THEY ARE STILL CONSIDERED A KILL SHELTER and they now face making the horrific decision of which dogs and cats must be euthanized due to a critical lack of space. Some of the furry Grayson residents have literally been there for YEARS, so it's likely that their time on this earth is drawing to a sad end. With more dogs having arrived just this past weekend, things are looking even bleaker.

This group does NOT send out many pleas asking for rescue help as they worry about "competing" with those dogs and cats that face the weekly risk of euthanasia at other shelters. They just keep hoping that the rescues and adoptions that they do have will help to "keep the balance" and that they'll be able to avoid what has now become the inevitable.....UNLESS rescues and/or adoptions increase immediately.

In a town of approximately 6,500 people, this shelter takes in almost 1,000 total cats and dogs per year - that might not seem like a lot compared to some shelters, but it's an OVERWHELMING number for the volunteers to manage, along with ALL of the other shelter duties. On average, only a dozen or so of these pets are reclaimed per year, two cats are adopted per month, and one dog is adopted per week. The rest simply MUST be rescued or euthanized.

One of the volunteers recently described their current situation best. "We can't continue to be low kill if we are full. We're not asking rescues to take dogs or cats that have issues or need assistance getting over life in the shelter or that don't get along with other dogs, cats, and/or small children. We're asking them to take the no-big-problems dogs or cats, while we continue to try to find the right home for the others."

Rescuing from this shelter is a GREAT DEAL on MANY levels. Not only can transport often be arranged to your front door (as mentioned above), but vetting costs are relatively low and reimbursement is never asked for anything beyond what is expended for such costs. Current vetting costs are:
Cat neuter - $35
Cat spay - $40
Dog neuter - $45
Dog spay - $50
Rabies vaccine - $6.50
"Puppy" vaccines - $3
Cat and dog combo viral vaccines - $2.50
Bordetella vaccine - $5
HW, Lyme, and Erlichia test - $15 for all three, if done by the Grayson volunteers
FeLV/FIV test - $15 for both, if done by the Grayson volunteers
Health certificate - $12-$25, depending on the vet used

Everything possible is also done to minimize the spread of disease or illness in this pound.
Dogs are held in their run for 10 days after the arrive at the shelter. If they appear to be healthy for those 10 days and after they receive their shots and wormer, then they can go play in one of the three fenced-in fields while their kennel is being cleaned. Puppies DO NOT leave their run or touch the ground ANYWHERE until they have had their entire series of puppy vaccines; they are also wormed several times after they arrive. The volunteers use bleach foot baths and hand washing. They also have different boots to wear in the puppy runs than in the rest of the facility and they use a combination of bleach sanitizing days and trifectant sanitizing days.

The Grayson volunteers will also test any animal you're interested in rescuing or adopting with other dogs, cats, kids, food - WHATEVER IT TAKES to get the information you need to decide to pull the pet. They will ALWAYS go the extra mile to save these precious furbabes. JUST ASK!!!

So how can you help?

The Grayson County Humane Society's Holiday Wish List for St. Bernard Nick is posted below:
Doghouses (any insulated plastic kind that can be cleaned and sanitized easily)
Two of the following dog houses were just ordered by an anonymous donor: Petmate Ruff Hauz Insulated Pet Shelter Large: 30.5"W X 38.25"D X 29"H; they were ordered online at Petco.com http://www.petco.com/product/5606/Petmate-Ruff-Hauz-Insulated-Pet-Shelter.aspx as they were on sale for only $71.99 instead of $89.99 and they also have free shipping for orders over $50. Looks like the sale price is no longer $71.99 though. If you place your order through http://www.terrificpets.com/pet_supplies/dog/dog-houses/plastic-foam/5606.asp, it actually goes to the Petco link, but it takes an additional $5 off AND it still gives you free shipping. Monetary donations will go a long way towards buying dog houses locally if you'd rather not have them shipped.
Blankets - old or new
Towels - old or new
Sheets - old or new as they use them to wrap the wire grates in the cat cages
Smallest-size flat litter boxes
Small covered litter boxes
Any kind of canned cat food
Metal pails for dog water
Transport crates/carriers (because of all the transports they do, Grayson's are nearing a state of complete disrepair)
Kuranda beds (

Collars and leashes

Such items can be sent/shipped to:
Grayson County Humane Society/SPCA
213 East William Thomason Byway
Leitchfield, KY 42754

Monetary donations in ANY amount can be mailed to the same address as listed above. If you need a receipt, please just ask for one. There is also a Paypal button on Grayson's Petfinder web site at
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY103.html. If you note what you'd like your donation to be used for, they will make sure that ALL such directed donations are used for exactly what the giver intended it to be used for. If you'd like to make a donation in honor of someone, a Grayson volunteer will send an acknowledgement card to that person, if you provide the necessary information.

ANYTHING that you can do to help Grayson is IMMENSELY appreciated!!!! No donation is too small - a roll of nickels, a ten dollar bill, a one-hundred dollar check.....it all helps to keep these furry angels warm, well-fed, and hopefully on the road to a happy new life.

I personally thank you for taking time out of your busy holiday season to read yet one more plea for help in an inbox that is probably overflowing with so many others. I know what it's like to anguish over how we can possibly help yet one more shelter, one more cat, one more dog - and how to choose the ones that we can help.
Please just keep Grayson tucked away in a corner of your heart so that, if and when you find yourself capable of helping them out - even if it's LONG past the holiday season, you remember their never-ending need for such kind offers of assistance. They are a PHENOMENAL group of people and pets to be involved with. You won't regret it and they will NEVER forget it.

Bless each and every one of you................

These posts are sent out by me as a small way to try to help those in such need.

They are NEVER meant to upset those who cannot offer assistance.
Please know that I thank each and every one of you

who works so tirelessly doing what you do on a never-ending basis.

I wholeheartedly agree with Sherry Staton in tail docking. As far as I am concerned this is just as bad as declawing a kitty.  Thank you Sherry for bringing this to attention

hi, I was wondering if there was any one out there with information
regarding getting help to have a dog neutered? I have a friend who has
a Service Dog in training and she can not afford to get her dog
neutered. Her and her daughter are basically homeless right now
(staying on a friends couch) until her disablity is approved (which
could take another 15 months)
The shelters around here are horrible and if the dog goes there to get
done he will almost possitively end up with an infection, kennel cough
and other stuff. They won't let her take him home that day even though
she needs him for her disablities. (While he wouldn't work during
recovery she needs him there with her) She has been trying to save
money to take him to her regular vet who will let her stay with her pup
during surgery and after until he wakes up then she can take him
directly home for recovery but she simply can't afford it.
I can only help some as I am also disabled and on a very limited
income.
Is there any groups/organizations out there that anyone knows of to get
her help?

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is a large kill shelter, with over 100 dogs
and cats. The overcrowding causes many otherwise adoptable dogs to be killed to
make space. This is inhumane and totally unacceptable and changes must be made.

Successful shelters allow volunteers; it is a proven fact. Volunteers help
socialize shelter pets and become their advocate for adoption.

Long Islanders care about our shelter pets, and we want to help change this
shelter into a no-kill shelter. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to
allow caring volunteers to help in the mission of adoption - not euthanasia.

Euthanasia is only appropriate when it is in the best interest of an animal who
is terminally ill and in pain, or has been so badly abused has become dangerous
and cannot be rehabilitated.

Sounds to me like your vet. wants to make some money
off of your dog.  I've had a couple of Dobermans
that had all of their tails with no problems.  The
main reason for cutting most of the tail off of any
dog is apperance.  The tail of a dog is the least
sensitive part of a dog.  The reason any dog's tail
is cut off at 4 days after birth it's even less
sensitive then and will heal quickly.  Most vets
cut the tails off with a quick snip of a large pair
of scissors.  If you are still spellbound by your
vets tale, save some money and save your dog some
pain and have the tail cut at the second joint
from the end of the spine on the first and only
amputation.

My email is shortyfrlife@yahoo.com.

Mandy,

Whatever you do, leave the tail IN TACT.   There is absolutely no need for the tail to be amputated.  OK, so the tail looks like it's damaged at the tip.  Can you contact a good Homeopathic vet?   A really good one.  Believe you me, they have the ability to deal with these issues without the need to dock the tail - and a damn sight lot cheaper.  The initial appointment might be costly because of the work involved, but afterwards it becomes a lot cheaper and they won't rip you off.

The following link shows an Alsation dog with no fur that the vet wanted to have put to sleep.  The dog was cured purely with homeopathy and nothing else.
